The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation issues oversize and overweight special hauling permits for state routes, processed through its Automated Permit Routing and Analysis System. APRAS checks the requested route against bridge and clearance data, so the route you ask for is not always the route you get. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission permits its own system separately and applies its own restrictions, including at the tunnels. Setting, Leveling & Anchoring in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is HUD Wind Zone I statewide, so the anchoring conversation here is about ground rather than wind. The Lehigh, Lebanon and Cumberland valleys sit on limestone, which means karst: sinkholes and voids that can undermine a pier long after the home is set, and a reason we take pad conditions seriously before blocking. When to Schedule Your Pennsylvania Move
April into November is the practical season. Winter is the real limiter in the mountains: I-80, the Laurel Highlands and the northern tier get snow and ice that will hold a wide load for days, and mountain grades with a manufactured home behind you are not a place to gamble. Spring thaw softens unpaved park drives and brings posted weight limits on township roads. Late summer and early fall are the sweet spot statewide — stable ground, long daylight and permit offices that are not buried.

Pennsylvania Mobile Home Moving FAQs
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation issues special hauling permits for state routes through its Automated Permit Routing and Analysis System, commonly called APRAS. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission issues its own permits for the Turnpike system. A cross-state move frequently needs both, and APRAS may return a different approved route than the one requested.
The Turnpike mountain tunnels have their own posted dimensional limits, and a manufactured home is often wider or taller than a tunnel will accept. When that happens the approved route detours over surface routes around the tunnel, which adds miles and time. We check that at the quoting stage so the schedule and the price reflect the real route.
Pennsylvania falls entirely in HUD Wind Zone I. That does not make anchoring optional. Tie-downs, pier spacing and footing sizing still have to meet the manufacturer installation instructions and state requirements, and on exposed ridge sites we design conservatively. The wind zone the home was built for is printed on its data plate.
It can. The Lehigh, Lebanon and Cumberland valleys sit on limestone, where sinkholes and subsurface voids are a genuine risk to a pier foundation. The anthracite and bituminous coal regions have mine subsidence history. Neither rules out a site, but both are worth raising before the home is placed, and our crews flag conditions they see on the pad.
Late spring through fall. Mountain winters shut down travel on I-80, the Laurel Highlands and the northern tier for days at a stretch, and moving a wide load down a snowy grade is not worth the risk. Spring thaw brings posted township road limits and soft park drives. September and October are usually the most reliable weeks of the year.
