Nevada breaks into two markets and one very long drive. Clark County — Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas — holds most of the state’s manufactured housing. Washoe County and the Reno-Sparks area holds most of the rest. Everything else is distance: Elko, Winnemucca, Ely, Pahrump, Fernley, Mesquite, and the ranch and mining country in between. Hauling Across Nevada
Two interstates and a handful of US routes carry everything. I-15 runs southwest out of Las Vegas toward California and northeast through Mesquite. I-80 crosses the north through Reno, Fernley, Winnemucca, Battle Mountain and Elko. Between them, US-95 does the heavy lifting: it is the longest highway in the state and the practical Las Vegas-to-Reno freight line, running up through Beatty, Tonopah and Hawthorne. Out east, US-93 and US-50 — the Loneliest Road — connect Ely and Great Basin country. The mileage is not the challenge. The emptiness is. Between Tonopah and Ely there are no services at all, so escorts, fuel and a breakdown plan get arranged before the load leaves the yard.

Nevada Permits & Oversize-Load Compliance
Over-dimensional permits come from the Nevada Department of Transportation’s permits office. For anything unusual, NDOT’s structural design staff reviews the proposed route for bridges and structures before approving it, and they will hand back a different route if the one you asked for does not work. Pilot cars are required on many configurations, and law enforcement escorts on some. Travel windows, holiday restrictions and construction-zone timing all show up in the permit conditions. Separately, the Nevada Housing Division issues the installation permit and inspects the set — a step some states leave to the county. Setting, Leveling & Anchoring in Nevada
Nevada is HUD Wind Zone I, and federal roof-load zoning leaves most of the state in the lighter categories — but do not read that as an easy set. Southern Nevada sits on caliche: a cemented hardpan that can be brutal to auger through and then behaves nothing like the soil above it. Desert alluvium elsewhere in the state can be loose and poorly graded. Northern Nevada adds real frost depth, and it runs deeper in Elko and Ely than anywhere in Clark County. Wind is also not theoretical here; gusts funnel hard through the valleys in spring. We test the ground, size the footings for it, and set anchors that will actually hold in that material.
When to Schedule Your Nevada Move
In the south, avoid July and August if you can. Crew safety and asphalt temperatures both argue for October through April in Clark County, and summer jobs get pushed to early morning. The north flips it. Reno, Elko and Ely want May through September, because I-80 and the high-desert passes pick up snow and blowing wind from late fall on. Spring is the sweet spot statewide, with the caveat that spring is also when the valley wind gets serious.

Yes, and this is one of the ways Nevada differs from its neighbors. The Nevada Housing Division, within the Department of Business and Industry, permits and inspects manufactured home installations rather than leaving that entirely to local building departments. Nevada is HUD Wind Zone I, the inland designation. Wind Zones II and III are coastal. That said, Nevada valleys channel strong spring winds, and a Wind Zone I rating describes how the home was built, not how exposed your particular lot is. Anchoring and tie-down spacing are set from the installation standard and the ground conditions on site.
By planning them like a small expedition. Long segments of central Nevada have no fuel, no services and no reliable cell coverage for well over a hundred miles at a time. We stage fuel, brief the pilot cars, set checkpoints and build the schedule around daylight. It adds time to the quote, and we would rather tell you that up front than discover it on the road.
It is workable but not ideal. Midsummer heat in the Las Vegas Valley slows crews, stresses tires and shortens the safe working day, so we start sets at first light and quote summer jobs accordingly. October through April is easier in the south. Northern Nevada runs the opposite calendar, where late spring through early fall is the reliable window.
